4 Suitable Materials for Decking

Decking materials differ in several ways. Some of the factors that are used to categorize the materials include durability, color, strength and texture among others.  They type of decking that you choose also depends on your budget. Cheaper materials include PVC and Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) while the more expensive materials include hardwood varieties.  Highlighted below are several materials that you could consider for your decking.

• Bamboo

This material is increasing in popularity and is considered a sustainable and environmentally friendly option.  Bamboo is quite tough and has the added advantage of being a natural termite repellent.

Treated Pine

Treated pine is widely available and quite affordable.  It feels soft underfoot and this gives it an upper hand over other wood varieties. It should however be noted that pine requires treatment in order to keep termites away and make the wood weatherproof.

• Cypress

Cypress is actually a general name for various species of conifer trees.  The wood from these trees is quite durable which makes it suitable choice for decking.  Cypress is generally resistant to termites and other pests.

• Wood Plastic Composite

This material is a made up of sawdust, timber and plastic. When finished, it is made to resemble wood. This is a great low-cost option that requires very minimal maintenance.
