4 Types of Roof Shingles for Your Home

Finding the best kinds of shingles within your budget is an important aspect when building your home or remodeling a roof. If you choose to go with shingles here’s a list of 4 types that you could consider for your home.

Wood Shingles

Wood Roof Shingles

These are normally more expensive than the asphalt varieties, however, they tend to be more visually appealing due to their natural rustic look.  In addition to looking good the hard wood varieties such as redwood and cedar are very durable and oven last for up to 500 years.

Ashalt Shingles

Asphalt Shingles

These tend to be the most commonly used varieties of shingles and they are relatively affordable. Coated Asphalt shingles are more reinforced and comply with Energy Star standards. Their Life span is relatively shorter than wood shingles and ranges between 20 and 30 years.

Slate Shingles

Slate Shingles

These are very common in the northern part of the US mainly because the material used to make them is quarried there.  These shingles are very durable and guarantee leak-free roofing. There are synthetic versions of these shingle which have much lower quality.

Metal Shingles

Metal Shingles

These are usually used on houses with flat or steep roof-lines. Although they are not commonly used they are slowly gaining popularity due to their sturdy build and durability.
