It may sometimes feel like a major chore to find the right slipcover fabric. However, the right material is out there and will range in color, texture, pattern and durability of fabric. There are a number of factors to consider when making your choice and we will highlight a couple of them just for you.
- Colorfastness – you have to find out if the fabric you choose has colors that run during the laundering process.
- Texture – usually linen is the preferred choice for slipcovers but if it doesn’t work for you, there’s a range different textured materials such as satin, chintz and silk among many others. Napped or dull matte fabrics like velvet, wool, chenille are also cozy and soft to the touch.
- Washability – if you live in a household with children or pets you will definitely need a material that can withstand multiple washes.
- Weight – fabrics with medium weight such as cotton or cotton blends are usually preferred because they aren’t too heavy. However, if you want a slipcover for a more formal area you may have to consider heavy fabric like corduroy, denim or velvet.
